Hot air holds more moisture than cold air, thus when temperatures drop, moisture that was easily suspended in warmer air is released, resulting in condensation - all those little water droplets fogging up your windshield. As the video explains, to defog the fastest, you need to create the optimal environment to aid the moisture removal process.  

Defog & Defrost Car Windows Fast with these Science-Based Tips:

  1. Turn your heater on.
    Start your engine, and using the defroster setting, crank the heater up all the way to absorb excess moisture within your vehicle. Remember: Hot air can hold more moisture.
  2. Press the A/C button.
    This may sound counterintuitive to the whole heater thing, but really what you’re doing is activating a setting on your car’s A/C system that helps dry the air within the cab faster with the help of the coils in your A/C system.
  3. Turn air recirculation off.
    You need fresh air to enter the car as well. Winter air is cold, and as it does not hold much moisture, it is dry. Bringing it into your car ups absorption capacity to more quickly dry the saturated air trapped within. 
  4. Crack your windows.
    This helps exchange the humid air in your car with dryer outside air, speeding up the process.
  5. Defrost Windows.
    While the above defogging action is taking place, de-frost your windows. This is an entirely separate process that should NEVER (EVER) include hot water. Defrosting quickly takes a minor amount of pre-planning, but saves a snow-capped mountain of headache later. If you can’t stand scraping, put together a simple solution of 2/3 cup Isopropyl or rubbing alcohol and 1/3 cup water, pouring the mixture into a spray bottle. This solution will not freeze (rubbing alcohol has a freezing point of 138 degrees below freezing), and can be stored easily in your car, allowing you to easily spray away windshield ice wherever you’re stranded.

How to Set an Out of Office Message in Gmail


People get fussy if you don't respond to emails quickly, so if you're out of office, even just for a day, you need to let them know. Here we'll show you how to set up an out of office message in Gmail and then how to use Zapier to customize your away message.
Step 1: Once logged in to Gmail, go to Settings or click the cog icon in the top right corner, and select Settings.

Step 2: Scroll down to the section called Vacation responder.

Step 3: Select the radio button for Vacation responder on, and then select the dates you want your responder to be active. People will receive your out of office reply starting at 12:01 a.m. on the First day until 11:59 p.m. on the Last day.

Step 4: Write your subject line and message. If you want to format your message, click the Rich formatting link to see your options. You can also select to only send the message to people in your contacts, or, if you have an enterprise account, to only send the message to people at your company.
Regardless, people will only get your away message once every four days, no matter how often they email you. So your boss who sends you 20 emails a day even when you're on vacation unfortunately won't get a nice "stop emailing me" reminder each time.

Step 5: Click Save Changes.
You'll know it's working because you'll see a yellow bar across the top of your Gmail letting you know your out of office message is on.

You can click End now to turn it off, and your away message will be saved until the next time you want to use it. Or you can click Vacation settings to adjust the away message.
When someone receives your message, the subject line will be [Your subject line] Re: [Their subject line]. You can see all of the out of office replies you sent in your Sent mail folder.

Customize Your Gmail Out of Office Message

Other than only sending to your contacts or people at your company, Gmail doesn't offer much in the way of customization. What if you only want your away message to go to certain people? Or more importantly, you don't want it to go to certain people?
Here's an example: You're heading to a business conference and won't be able to live in your inbox, but you're about to close on a huge deal. So you want to let everyone know that you're away—except that one lead.
Step 1: Create a Zapier account or log in to Zapier. Click the orange Make a Zapbutton in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Name your Zap in the top left corner and then select Gmail as your trigger app.

Step 3: Select New Email as your trigger.

Then click Save + Continue.
Step 4: Connect your account, and click Continue. If you want to only search for emails with a specific label, you can specify that on the next screen. Otherwise, just skip it and click Continue again. Finally, test your step before moving on.
Step 5: Next, you'll add a Filter step.
There's only one filter option, which will be selected by default. Click Continue.
Step 6: Complete the filter rule to only continue if the From email does not exactly match the email address of your big lead.

Step 7: Finally, you'll add an action step, selecting Gmail as your action app and Send Email as your Gmail action. Then select the Gmail account you'd like to use.
Once you're on the email setup screen, you'll fill in any of the fields that make sense. What you're doing here is creating the out of office message that you want to send to everyone except your big lead.
In the To: field, you'll map the From email from Step 1. This indicates that you want to send the away message to the person who sent you the email (as long as it's not your big lead).
In the Subject and Body fields, you'll type the subject line for your out of office reply and the body of the message.
Click Continue, and then finish setting up the Zap by testing it, naming it, and turning it on.
Of course, you can adapt this workflow to fit your needs. For example, you might want to send a different away message depending on the sender, subject line, or content of the email you receive. Or you might want to cc: your work nemesis on every away message just to clog their inbox.
Whatever the reason, you can customize your out of office message in almost any way imaginable using Zapier, so give it a try.

How to Apply Individual Eyelashes

If you've ever struggled with sparse lashes, individual eyelashes may the solution to your eye makeup woes. 


1. Selecting the eyelashes. The store shelves hold many different types of false eyelashes. You can buy individual eyelashes or lash clusters, or you can get strips of eyelashes and cut them yourself to create individual lashes. I find that both individual lashes and lash clusters look more natural than a full eyelash strip.

2. Preparing the area. If you want your eyelashes to last all night and into the morning, start with a clean, dry canvas. Wash and dry your face well and apply your foundation and powder before applying individual eyelashes. If you plan to wear eyeliner, apply it first, as it can be difficult to create a nice line after you’ve put on the lashes. You’ll want to hold off on mascara until the lashes have been applied.

3. Working with the glue. I buy a brand of eyelash clusters that come with their own glue, but you can also buy lash glue separately. Never use any other type of glue, especially super-glue or nail glue, when applying eyelashes. I place a small dot of glue on a piece of aluminum foil because it protects my vanity counter and doesn’t absorb the glue like a tissue might.


4. Applying the lashes. Individual lashes are a bit difficult to work with, so I use tweezers to make things easier. Select one lash (or one lash cluster) at a time and gently dip the end into your glue dot. A little goes a long way, so don’t overdo it. Close your eye and attach the lash to the existing lash line, making sure the curl is following along with the natural curve of your lashes. I never apply the lash to my eyelid or skin because this results in a less natural look. You’ll generally have a minute or two to nudge it into place before the glue dries.

5. Deciding where to place the lashes. Because I like a natural look, I apply individual lashes or lash clusters only to the outer two-thirds of my top lid. The lashes on your lower lid and the inner third of your upper lid are naturally much shorter, so applying lashes here will give you away. I like to start my application in the middle of my upper eyelid and work my way out, spacing individual lashes or lash clusters sporadically in between my natural lashes.

Once I’ve applied individual lashes to both eyes, I let the glue dry for a few minutes and then apply a few coats of mascara to blend the fake lashes into my natural lash line. This creates a really dramatic look and also helps to camouflage the false lashes.

  1. Grab a big fluffy towel and choose your spot. Comfort is key, so if you’re doing this over a sink you’ll want to use a chair or stool that offers the right height. Otherwise, a bowl on a table is your best bet.
  2. Secure your hair so that it’s off your face and cleanse using a gentle exfoliating cleanser. Don’t forget to cleanse your neck, too!
  3. Bring 4 to 6 cups of water to a boil in a kettle or pot, depending on the size of the sink or bowl.
  4. Add a handful of herbs once the water begins to boil and stir.
  5. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 2 or 3 minutes. Carefully pour into the sink or bowl. If you’re using essential oils, this is the time to add a few drops to the water.
  6. Have a seat, drape your towel over your head and the pot, and hold your face 6 inches above the water.
  7. Raise or lower your head for more or less heat and lift a corner of the towel to cool off if needed.
  8. Steam your face for 5 to 10 minutes.

To steam with warm towels

  1. Get a hand towel and turn on the hot water tap. When hot, fill your sink or bowl with enough hot water to soak your towel. Add your herbs.
  2. Secure your hair so that it’s off your face and cleanse your face and neck using a gentle exfoliating cleanser.
  3. Soak your towel in the hot water and wring it out so that the towel is damp.
  4. Lean back in a comfy chair or lie down. Place the towel on your face, holding each corner up so they meet in the center of your forehead.
  5. Adjust the towel so that it covers your entire face, including the eyes, leaving just your nose peeking through. Relax for 5 minutes.

To steam with a home facial steamer

  1. Read your facial steamer’s instructions, filling it up as directed. Place it on a table near an outlet so you can plug it in. It will take a few minutes to begin emitting steam.
  2. Secure your hair so that it’s off your face and wash your face using a gentle exfoliating cleanser.
  3. Have a seat, get comfortable, and set your face inside the cone attachment, staying 5 to 10 inches away as it says to do in your steamer’s instruction booklet.
  4. Steam for 2 or 3 minutes at a time with a 1-minute break in between to see how your skin is handling the steam.

How to choose your base

At the end of the day, the base you choose for steaming your face won’t make the steaming any less beneficial, but some bases may offer even more perks.

  1. Tap water. Tap water is accessible and free, so you can’t really go wrong.
  2. Distilled or spring water. You could also use distilled or spring water, though there’s no evidence to suggest that one is actually better than the other for steaming.
